Georg Grützmacher

Georg Konstans Grützmacher (born December 22, 1866 in Berlin , † February 28, 1939 in Münster ) was a Protestant theologian , church historian and professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.

Life

Grützmacher began studying theology, history and linguistics in 1886 at the Université de Lausanne and continued it at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin (today's Humboldt University ) and the University of Halle-Wittenberg (today's Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg ) in Halle an der Saale. During his studies in Lausanne in the summer semester of 1887 he was one of the founding members of the Société d'Étudiants Germania . From 1897 he was a professor at the University of Heidelberg. He dedicated his book The Victory of Christianity over the Ancient World to Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden . From 1914 he was university professor for Protestant theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University and was rector from 1924 to 1925 and vice-rector from 1925 to 1926 of the university. He wrote numerous church historical writings. His most important works are the Hieronymus biography in 3 volumes ( "Hieronymus. A biographical study of the ancient church history" ), "The meaning of Benedict of Nursia and his rule for the history of monasticism" and the investigation under the title "The victory of Christianity about the world of antiquity " .
