Georg Hermann Stoltz

Georg Hermann Stoltz (* 1845 in Melle ; † December 12, 1939 ) was a German entrepreneur in Hamburg and Brazil .

Hermann Stoltz left the Johanneum high school in Lüneburg in 1863 with primary school. He began an apprenticeship at the Bremen import company FW Helmers & Sohn, which he did not finish, and went to Rio de Janeiro in 1866. There he joined the German-Brazilian trading company Brandes Kramer & Ferreira and soon became its partner. In 1884 the name was changed to Herm. Stoltz & Cie., At the same time a branch was founded in Hamburg and Stoltz moved with his family to the Hanseatic city. The company opened further branches, including a. in Sao Paulo and Recife, and became the most important Hamburg exporter for Brazil. Later she also imported Brazilian goods to Germany. She also invested in Brazilian industrial companies, acted as an agent for various international insurance companies and worked in the shipping business. In 1915 Stoltz set up a foundation, the proceeds of which went to students of the Johanneum in Lüneburg. He was also committed to churches and hospitals. Politically, as a member of the Hamburg National Club from 1919, he represented conservative-authoritarian ideas.
