Georg Hoffmann (swimmer)

Georg Hoffmann (* 1880 ; † 1947 ) was a German swimmer and diver from the Poseidon Berlin swimming club .

At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis , Hoffmann took second place over 100 yards behind Walter Brack . Since Georg Zakarias took third place, the German triple victory was the only swimming competition in 1904 in which the host Americans did not achieve a placement in the first three places. The day after the back competition, the competition over 400 yards chest took place, which Zakarias won, Hoffmann came in fourth. Hoffmann also took part in jumping and took second place there behind the American George Sheldon . Hoffmann won the German 100 meter freestyle championships in 1904 .

Two years later, Hoffmann also started at the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens. About 100 meters freestyle he did not reach the final. in diving he took second place behind the German Gottlob Walz .
