Georg Hom

Carl Georg Hom (born June 27, 1838 in Frankfurt am Main , † October 23, 1911 in Berlin ) was a German portrait painter.

Life

Hom learned painting at the State University of Fine Arts - Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main with Jakob Becker . To deepen his studies, he visited the most important galleries in Germany, namely in Dresden, Munich, Kassel and Berlin. In 1874 he moved from Frankfurt to Berlin, where he also became a professor. Hom painted both portrait and genre pictures. He was known for his candlelight paintings. He regularly showed his works in exhibitions in Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich. In 1906 he became a corps bow holder of the Palaio-Alsatia .

His son Hans Hom (1877–1899) had attended the Joachimsthal High School and studied medicine in Strasbourg. He died of typhoid at the age of 22.
