Georg Johann Reuter (born July 26, 1776 in Demen , † March 22, 1845 in Stavenhagen ) was a German mayor and the father of the poet and writer Fritz Reuter .

Georg Johann Jakob Friedrich Reuter was a great-grandson of the writer Christian Reuter . His parents were the pastor Joachim Friedrich Reuter (1743–1799) and his wife Catharina Maria, geb. Fanter († 1826).

After graduating from high school in Parchim, Reuter studied law, political science and economics in Rostock and Göttingen until 1803. In 1805 he was appointed to the ducal office in Stavenhagen. In 1808 he became mayor and magistrate of Stavenhagen.

In 1809 Reuter and Catharina Peters from Stavenhagen had their daughter Elisabeth, called Lisette († 1865), whom he legitimized in 1839.

In February 1810, Reuter married Johanna Louisa Sophia Ölpke (1787-1826), a daughter of the mayor of Tribsees . The son Fritz was born in 1810, another son died soon after the birth.

With the sister Henriette († 1839) of his wife Johanna, Reuter had the daughter Sophie (1814–1901), whom he legitimized in 1839.

As mayor, Reuter skillfully enlarged the city's property and improved the city's economic situation.
