Georg Ludwig Balemann
Georg Ludwig Friedrich Balemann (born January 11, 1787 in Reinfeld , † January 31, 1866 in Rendsburg ) was a lawyer and politician in Schleswig-Holstein .
Life
Ludwig Balemann visited the school Holzminden and studied after high school in 1805, first philosophy and then law at the University of Kiel . In 1808 he moved to the Georg-August University in Göttingen and graduated in October 1809 with the first state examination in Glückstadt . He was then an attorney at court in Kiel and from 1820 a notary in Kiel.
From 1829 to 1835 he was Dahlmann's successor secretary of the ongoing deputation of the Schleswig-Holstein knighthood. In 1832 he was awarded the Dr. jur. hc of the law faculty of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität.
In 1853 he had to file for personal bankruptcy and in 1855 he was sentenced by the Glückstadt Higher Court for embezzlement to 6 years of arrest in Rendsburg. After serving his sentence, he died in 1866.
politics
From 1835 onwards he was a member of the Holstein Council of Estates several times for the electoral district of Kiel . There he was elected President of Parliament in sessions of 1835, 1838 and 1840 with growing majorities.
In 1843 he was elected syndic of the city of Kiel and in 1844 was appointed mayor of Kiel by King Christian VIII .
August 1848 he was elected to the constituent Schleswig-Holstein state assembly for the 31st Holstein electoral district (Bramstedt) after the Schleswig-Holstein survey . There he was chairman of the committee for the drafting of a constitutional law and temporarily deputy speaker of parliament.
From 1849 to 1850 he was sent to Berlin several times to negotiate with the Prussian government. After the end of the survey, he was no longer confirmed as mayor by the Danish king in 1852 and Ludolf Conrad Hannibal Bargum succeeded him as mayor.
