Joseph Georg Pommer (* 1815 in Nuremberg ; † 1873 there ) was a German painter, copper and steel engraver.

Life

Pommer originally worked as a painter. He came to Stuttgart in 1840 to be trained in the art of steel engraving by his friend Jakob Fleischmann. Since 1843 he has been creating copper and steel engravings independently, including the “Last Supper” according to Peter Paul Rubens or the “Annunciation of Mary” according to Bartolomé Esteban Murillo . He made engravings of St. Francis or other images for prayer books, among other things. At times he also worked in Munich . Among other things, he created engravings based on the model Bathing Children in the Forest by A. Müller and based on the Justitia (Nemesis) by Alfred Rethel . He worked as a drawing teacher at the trade school in Nuremberg.
