Georg Riemenschneider (composer)
Georg Riemenschneider (born April 1, 1848 in Stralsund , † September 14, 1913 in Breslau ) was a German conductor and composer .
Life
Georg Riemenschneider, the son of a Stralsund wagon builder, was a student of Karl Adolf Lorenz in Stettin and August Haupt in Berlin. After that he was theater music director a. a. at the Deutsche Oper in Amsterdam . From 1889 to 1898 Riemenschneider directed the Philharmonic Orchestra in Breslau. He was appointed professor in 1907, gave music lessons and wrote music reviews for the " Schlesische Zeitung ".
Riemenschneider wrote symphonic poems , organ works and operas. He set Low German poems to music and was a popular Fritz Reuter reciter.
