Georg Stein (chess player)

Georg Stein (born April 17, 1909 ; † 1980s ) was a German chess player .

At the age of 16 he won the Koblenz city ​​championship in 1925 . He then won this several times, including 1930 and 1935. One of his greatest successes was winning the second GDR chess championship in 1951 in Schwerin ahead of Wolfgang Pietzsch . His highest historical rating was 2433 in February 1951, which put him at number 256 in the world rankings. His highest world ranking according to historical Elo number was 214 in January 1949. Nothing more is known about Stein's death.
