George the Fat of Gemmingen

George the Fat of Gemmingen (born before 1399; died after 1426) was a German imperial knight. It came from the branch of the Velscher of the Barons of Gemmingen . In the early 15th century, he briefly owned Cornweiler Castle and had a. a. Owned in Frankenbach, Wössingen, Gemmingen and Weiler.

Life

On Martinstag 1415 Georg von Gemmingen and his wife Agnes von Remchingen certify that Count Emich VII von Leiningen-Hardenburg had received half of the annual interest of the villages Kandel, Minfeld and Freckenfeld.

He was a son of Triegel von Gemmingen and was married to Agnes von Remchingen. In 1399 he came to an agreement with Bishop Raban von Helmstatt , together with his uncle Hans († 1409), to have the ruined Altenburg near Bruchsal pledged to them restored. In 1408 they asked for the deposit again. Georg bought Cornweiler Castle from Hans von Remchingen in 1411 , but sold it to the Count of Württemberg in the following year. Meanwhile , a dispute broke out between Georg von Gemmingen and the Lords of Remchingen about mutual claims to the village of Frankenbach , which was decided in 1414 by Count Palatine Ludwig, the Bishop of Verdun and a group of noble councilors in favor of those of Remchingen. In 1415 Eberhard von Württemberg gave Georg the Fat permission to pledge his Württemberg fiefs to Eberhard von Gemmingen and Eberhard von Neipperg for 800 guilders. In 1426 Georg von Gemmingen and his wife Agnes von Remchingen ceded their share in Frankenbach and their quarter in Wössingen , Gemmingen and Weiler to Heinrich von Remchingen. In 1434 and 1435 his wife is mentioned on the occasion of various rights, Georg himself may have already died at that time.

Georg was married to Agnes von Remchingen and probably only had daughters. The daughters Agnes, Anna and Margareth are considered certain, the Werntraut mentioned in 1480 is attributed to the circumstances.
