Georg von Klencke (also: Georg (Jürgen) Ernst August von Klencke ; born January 9, 1874 at Hämelschenburg Castle ; † 1960 ) was a German lawyer and insurance manager .

Life

Georg von Klencke came from the noble von Klencke family and was born at the Weser Renaissance Castle Hämelschenburg, which has been owned by the family for centuries, and later managed the business himself. After graduating from school, von Klencke studied law and then entered a civil service career, but resigned from civil service at the age of 49.

The lawyer and farmer, who acted as district court advisor and landscape advisor for the Calenberg-Göttingen-Grubenhagen knighthood , became a member of the fire insurance committee of the VGH Versicherungen around 1934 , which at the time only insured against fire damage and burglary. Since then, von Klencke has held management positions at VGH for 46 years; from 1920 to 1960 he worked on the board of directors , which he chaired for 31 years. Years before the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany, von Klencke began managing the insurer as chairman of the supervisory board . In his era, the VGH portfolio was supplemented by a number of other insurance lines, and the sum insured rose from around five to one hundred million DM .

In more than four decades Georg von Klencke missed almost no meeting at the VGH. It was only when he had a serious accident at the age of 85 that he was temporarily represented. He died shortly afterwards in 1960.
