George's Spaghetti House

George's Spaghetti House (also George's Jazz Room ), founded in 1956, was the longest-running jazz club in Toronto .

The jazz club George's Spaghetti House was founded in 1956 by Doug Cole († 2012) in what was then George's Hotel in Toronto at 290 Dundas Street (corner of Sherbourne Street) and existed in his Italian restaurant until 1984. Canadian musicians such as Lenny Breau , Hugh Fraser , Carol Britto , Don Francks , Jim Galloway , Guido Basso , Jerry Fuller , Ed Bickert , Ian Bargh , Terry Clarke , Herbie Spanier , Don Thompson and Don Thompson . At first the concerts were limited to the weekend; Since 1960, live jazz has been played six nights a week. In the mid-1960s, jazz musicians from the USA were also presented there.

In 1984 the club was continued in the rooms on the upper floor of the house by changing owners under different names ( Castle George and A Nice Place ) until 1994. In George’s radio recordings of the CBC and live recordings by Ed Bickert, Koffman and Doug Riley ( Moe Koffman Quintet - Live at George’s ) were made. The club's musical director from 1956 to 1990 was saxophonist Moe Koffman , who was not only responsible for bookings, but also performed regularly with the house band.
