Carol Britto
Carol Britto (born May 20, 1935 in Cleveland , Ohio as Carol Whitney , † March 16, 2012 in New York City ) was an American jazz pianist .
Live and act
Britto grew up in Cleveland and then moved to Toronto , where she attended Oscar Peterson's Advanced School of Music to lead a trio, first at the Royal York Hotel and later at George's Spaghetti House . She also played in Tommy Dorsey's band in the 1970s . She was also the organist for the Toronto Blue Jays between 1977 and 1979 . In the late 1970s she performed with bassist Dave Young at Toronto's Bourbon Street jazz club . After many years in Toronto, she moved to New York City in 1984. From 1985 to 1990 she presented her music in a duo with Major Holley . She mostly played ballads and jazz standards , for example by Duke Ellington , Thelonious Monk , Miles Davis and Paul Desmond . After her first trio recordings in Toronto in 1967, she recorded the album Inner Voices in 1985 in a duo with bassist Michael Moore ; In 1987 the album Alone Together followed , again with Michael Moore and with Flip Phillips . Britto was known for her percussive style.
