George Alan Rekers

George Alan Rekers (born July 11, 1948 ) is an American psychologist and Baptist pastor.

Life

After leaving school, Rekers studied psychology at Westmont College, the University of California in Los Angeles , Columbia International University and the University of South Africa . After completing his studies, Rekers worked as a psychologist. Among other things, he worked for the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH), on whose board he was promoted. In 1983 Rekers was a founding member of the American organization Family Research Council together with James Dobson and Armand Nicholi .

Rekers operates the Teensextoday website . He is married and has two children.

Attitude to homosexuality

Rekers took the view that homosexuality was a "genetic defect" that could be treated within 18 to 22 months. The American Psychiatric Association (APA) found this thesis unscientific and false.

Rekers describes the effects of a homosexual lifestyle as follows:

"The homosexual lifestyle has enormous social and personal disadvantages in the form of [...] emotional dysfunction in adolescence [...] substance abuse [...] sexually transmitted diseases [...] problems in school [...] high risk of suicide and shortened life expectancy due to others, associated with non-specific causes. "

- George Alan Rekers : quoted from “How can one prevent male homosexuality?”, NARTH / Der neue Weg, 2001

He is also against caring for children in a household where a homosexual adult lives. In particular, he sees moments of danger due to the great load

“By [residents] who suffer from mental health problems and abuse drugs; [...] through the coexistence [of the children] with HIV-infected or sexually ill individuals; […] Because they are exposed to gay pornography, sex toys and inappropriate sexual activity, which can include guests coming into the house; Stresses from current or potential abuse by homosexually oriented individuals who act as 'parents' or guests; and more."

- George Alan Rekers : Summarized by NARTH, 2006

For these reasons, he explicitly advocates ending existing, long-term foster or adoption relationships and transferring the children and young people to other places, even if these experiences are known to be traumatic for them. In 2010 Rekers himself undertook a multi-day trip to Europe accompanied by a male prostitute, from whom, according to the prostitute, he was served with erotic massages. Rekers, who "honestly cares for the well-being of the children" and regularly takes in foster children, adopted a 16-year-old boy in 2006. This is one of the reasons why he is now receiving sharp ridicule in the media, as he is unsuitable for raising children by his own standards.

In 2010 Rekers got into international media coverage because he had booked a homosexual callboy for a European trip as a companion on the website rentboy.com . After the media reports on this incident, Rekers resigned from the NARTH board.
