George Bernard Summers

George Bernard Summers (born September 16, 1906 in St. John's (Newfoundland) , † November 29, 1993 in Javea , Spain ) was a Canadian ambassador .

Life

His father, PJ Summers, was Assistant Attorney General of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1929 George Bernard Summers joined the law firm of Cyril J. Fox , until 1934 he was employed in the administration of justice in Corner Brook and then entered the Canadian civil service. In 1944 he was recruited as a captain by the British Army and retired as a colonel in 1947 . In 1950 he joined the Foreign Service of Canada. From 1954 he was employed in Prague , where he was appointed chargé d'affaires on July 5, 1957. On January 9, 1959, he was appointed envoy extraordinary and ministre plénipotentiaire in Tehran . As such, he was accredited from March 11, 1959 to February 14, 1961. On January 12, 1961, he was appointed ambassador to Tehran. As such, he was accredited from February 14, 1961 to July 25, 1962. On October 23, 1962, he was appointed ambassador to Santiago de Chile, where he was accredited from January 5, 1963 until his retirement on June 23, 1970.
