George Dudley Seymour State Park is a Connecticut state park in the Haddam area . The area is relatively undeveloped. It lies on the east bank of the Connecticut River , still under the influence of the tides. to the north is the Hurd State Park . The Axelson Brook runs in this area.
history
The land originally belonged to the Clark family, who manufactured fruit presses and agricultural implements here. After the demise of their company and several changes of ownership, the area was acquired in 1960 by the George Dudley Seymour Foundation for $ 60,000 and given the Dept. of Energy & Environmental Protection. Eight other protected areas were acquired by the George Dudley Seymour Foundation . Some of the foundations of the relatively large Clarks property still stand.
