George Evans (comic artist)

George Evans (born February 5, 1920 in Harwood, Pennsylvania , † June 22, 2001 ) was an American comic artist, who was best known for his aviator comics.

Before Evans began studying art, he had published his first drawings. During the Second World War he was with the United States Air Force for three years , after which he started his comic career at the comic book publisher Fiction House , for which he worked until 1950 and where he worked on the aviator comic Air Heroes . During this time Evans also worked for the comic book publisher Fawcett, where he worked on Captain Marvel , among other things , and took courses at the Art Students League of New York . From Fawcett he switched to EC Comics, where he not only worked on Two Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat , but also on horror and science fiction comics. After the collapse of EC Comics in 1956, he drew various comics based on literary templates.

From 1960 to 1973 Evans assisted George Wunder at Terry and the Pirates . During this time he began working with DC Comics , for which he worked on Blackhawk . In addition, he drew horror comics during this time. In the 1980s and 1990s Evans drew for various comic book publishers, but was also active in advertising.
