George Island ( Spanish : Isla Jorge ) is one of the Falkland Islands . It is south of Speedwell Island and northeast of Barren Island . The island is flat and has a few ponds.
There is a farm on George Island. Most of the island is used as a sheep pasture . It is known for its Magellanic penguin colonies . Its populations of giant petrels , Falkland wrens , dark shearwaters , monochrome bank rockers , Falkland steamship ducks and red-headed geese are also significant . Together with the other islands of the Speedwell Group, it is designated by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (FK16).
George Island is occasionally visited by crusaders .
