George Victor Drogo Montagu, 8th Duke of Manchester (born June 17, 1853 in London , † August 18, 1892 at Tandragee Castle in County Armagh ) was a British aristocrat and politician .

Life

George Montagu was the eldest son of five children of the politician William Montagu, 7th Duke of Manchester (1823–1890) and his wife Luise Friederike Auguste Countess von Alten (1832–1879), a daughter of Count Viktor von Alten and Hermine de Make up.

On May 22, 1876, he married the Cuban - American heiress Doña María Consuelo Yznaga del Valle (1859-1909), a daughter of the wealthy diplomat Don Antonia Yznaga del Valle and Ellen Clements, in Grace Church in New York City . From this well-calculated marriage, which is said to have gone well, three children emerged, son William Angus Drogo (1877-1947) and twin daughters Jacqueline Mary Alva († 1895) and Alice Eleanor Louise († 1900).

Between 1877 and 1880 Montagu was a Member of the House of Commons for Huntingdonshire. Apart from his political career, he also achieved the rank of captain with the Royal Irish Fusiliers. After his father's death in 1890, he inherited the title and a seat in the House of Lords .
