George Wilfred Nevinson (born October 3, 1882 in Wigan , Greater Manchester , † March 13, 1963 in Lancaster , Lancashire ) was a British water polo player .
Nevinson took part in the London Olympics in 1908. After his national team won the game in the preliminary round due to the withdrawal of Austria without a fight, the team went straight to the final, which was won 9: 2 against Belgium. Nevinson thereby won his only Olympic medal, the gold medal in water polo.
He had to cancel his participation in the 1912 Olympic Games due to an injury, as he broke his leg shortly before. He played for Salford SC for most of his career, but moved to Lancaster in 1913, where he began a job as a carpenter. He was married twice and had a total of seven daughters and three sons.
