George Ramsay, 4th Earl of Dalhousie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Ramsay, 4th Earl of Dalhousie (* around 1668 , † 1696 in the Netherlands ) was a Scottish nobleman.

Family and career

Ramsay was born the eldest son of William Ramsay, 3rd Earl of Dalhousie and his wife Lady Mary Moore. He had two brothers and a sister. With the death of the father in November 1682, the family's hereditary titles passed to him, even if he was still a minor at that time. After the death of his father, James Drummond, 4th Earl of Perth , took care of the boy and tried to use his influence as Lord Chancellor of Scotland to enable him to attend a Catholic school in Douai , but this failed. In 1696 Ramsay was killed in a duel with a Mr. Hamilton in the Netherlands. Since he died unmarried and childless, his younger brother William took over both the position of head of the family and the titles.
