George Ranalli

George Ranalli (born 1946 in New York City , New York ) is an American architect and university professor. He teaches architectural design at Yale University .

Life

He received a bachelor's degree from the Pratt Institute in 1972 and a master of arts degree from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design . In 1976 he became an associate professor of architectural design at Yale University. Since his studies he has published numerous theoretical papers on architectural design, and since the late 1970s his designs have also been shown at numerous exhibitions.

Ranalli's designs for building and interior architecture are mostly limited to simple rectangular or cuboid basic shapes, which he often broken up into futuristic structures. When designing inner-city interiors, he often takes up design patterns from high-rise facades, so that the urban character of the location also comes into play inside the building. He became known through such redesigns of lofts. His style is described as expressive-symbolic.

He took part in numerous architecture competitions, including a. for the Chicago Tribune office tower, for the Peak system in Hong Kong, for the new opera house in Paris and for the Times office tower in New York City.
