Miyu Katō ( Japanese 加藤 未 唯 , Katō Miyu ; born November 21, 1994 in Kyōto ) is a Japanese tennis player .

Career

Katō began playing tennis at the age of eight and, according to the ITF player profile, prefers hard courts. She initially played mainly tournaments on the ITF Women's Circuit , where she has won three singles and 12 doubles titles so far.

In 2015 she competed in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time , but already lost her first round match in the US Open qualification against Kateryna Bondarenko with 0: 6 and 2: 6. In qualifying for the Australian Open in 2016, she also failed in the first round when she lost to her compatriot Naomi Osaka with 6-0 and 6-3.

In April 2016 she celebrated her first tournament victory on the WTA Tour with Eri Hozumi . Together, the two Japanese made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open 2017 . Then Katō reached a new personal record with number 30 in the double world rankings.

In February 2018 she played in New Delhi against Thailand for the first time for the Japanese Fed Cup team . Your Fed Cup balance shows so far six wins and one defeat.
