Georges Bonifassi

Georges Bonifassi (born May 18, 1952 in Marseille , † January 19, 1995 in Paris ) was a French English and Occitanist .

Life

Bonifassi, who had Catalan-Provençal parents, was a student of Paul Roux . He studied English at the University of Aix-en-Provence , passed the Agrégation in English and became a high school teacher, but switched to Occitan studies scientifically . In 1988 he received his doctorate from Suzanne Thiolier-Méjean at the Sorbonne with the work Les publications périodiques en provençal des origines à 1914 (published posthumously ud T. La presse régionale de Provence en langue d'oc des origines à 1914 , Paris 2003, foreword by Suzanne Thiolier-Méjean). From 1986 he taught Provencal as a lecturer at the "Center d'enseignement et de recherche d'oc" (CEROC) of the Sorbonne. From 1987 until his death he was (as successor to Marcel Decremps ) editor-in-chief of the magazine La France latine (successor: Philippe Blanchet ). He was a member of the Félibrige .
