Georges Gredt

Georges Gredt (born December 8, 1897 in Differdange , † November 19, 1970 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourg engineer.

Career

Gredt was born as the older of two children of the engineer Paul Gredt (1867–1934) in Differdange. His father was the smelter there (at that time the steelworks did not yet exist).

After his engineering studies at the Technical University of Aachen , he earned his doctorate in August 1923 at the ETH Zurich Dr. engineering and then initially worked for the steel company Röchling Völklingen . He later went to Paris and became a consultant in the Bureau de Vente des Aciers de la Sarre . Eventually he took over his father's business.

After the Second World War he was for a time director of the Luxembourg War Damage and Reconstruction Office .

Like his father (and later one of his sons) he was Consul General of Sweden in Luxembourg. In addition, he was temporarily President of the Touring Club. In 1931 he married Marie ("May") Kauffman (* 1908), the daughter of the former State Minister and Prime Minister Léon Kauffman , with whom he had four sons, one of whom died early.

Georges Gredt was a nephew of the well-known Benedictine priest and philosopher Joseph Gredt .
