Georges Ulmer (1962)

Georges Ulmer (born February 16, 1919 in Copenhagen , † September 29, 1989 in Marseille ; actually Jørgen Frederik Ulmer ) was a French chanson writer and singer of Danish origin.

Georges Ulmer grew up in Spain and came to Paris in 1939. He became a member of Fred Adison's orchestra and worked as an actor, writer and composer. However, he achieved fame mainly as a singer and chanson writer. In 1946, together with Géo Koger, he designed his most famous song “Pigalle”, which is still one of the evergreens today . Many of his songs are influenced by American folklore music. In the 50s he was artistically overshadowed by Yves Montand , whose songs and style of singing were very similar. Many of his songs have been adopted by other performers. He moved to Cagnes-sur-Mer in the 1960s and it became increasingly quiet around him.
