Georgi Gatchechiladze

Georgi Gatchetschiladze ( Georgian გიორგი გაჩეჩილაძე , Russian Георгий Иванович Гачечиладзе / Georgi Ivanovich Gatchetschiladze; born August 17, 1914 in Kutaisi ; † 1994 ) was a Soviet chess official and coach.

Life

As a chess player, Gatchechiladze took part in some tournaments at the republican level in Georgia , but without reaching top placements. During his studies he ran a chess club at the Tbilisi State University . From 1953 he was head of the chess department in the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport of the Georgian SSR. In this function he was significantly involved in the development of the game of chess, in particular women's chess, in Georgia.

Gatchetschiladze was a board member in the Soviet Chess Federation. He held the title of national and, since 1962, international referee . In 1971 he was honored as " Honored Coach of the USSR ". He was also awarded the medal “For heroic work” and the honorary title “Honored Worker in Physical Culture and Sport”.
