The eighth season of Georgian Idol will take place from January 5, 2019 to March 3, 2019 and will be the Georgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel .

format

concept

Georgian Idol is the Georgian offshoot of the British talent show Pop Idol and was broadcast annually from 2008 to 2013. In 2017 the format returned under the name Georgian Idol and will now select both the artist and the song for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019. The program is produced by Nova Productions .

Every Georgian citizen who is at least 16 years old can participate. The first auditions were held in Tbilisi on October 27, 2018 . Further auditions followed in other cities in Georgia on the following dates:

  • October 30th in Telavi & Gurjaani
  • October 31 in Akhmeta & Lagodekhi
  • November 1st in Gori
  • November 2nd in Borjomi & Akhaltsikhe
  • November 3 in Tbilisi
  • November 4, 4 in Tbilisi
  • November 6th in Chiatura
  • November 7th in Kutaisi

The first broadcast will then be broadcast on January 1, 2019. The final is scheduled for March 3, 2019. The show should run from January 2019 to March 2019.

Voting procedure

In the later live shows, only the viewers can vote for their favorites via televoting and Facebook via Messenger, while in the casting rounds only the jury determines the result.

Choice of contribution

On December 22, 2018, GPB launched a call to submit songs for the broadcast. These should correspond to the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest. There are no other restrictions. Contributions could be submitted up to February 1, 2019. On the same day, GPB announced that they had received over 200 songs. On February 17, 2019, the broadcaster announced that the song would be sung in Georgian at the Eurovision Song Contest .

Moderation

On November 7, 2018, GPB announced that Vaniko Tarkhnishvili and Ruska Makashvili would be performing on the show.

The first broadcast of the casting rounds was broadcast on January 5, 2019. The following nine singers qualified for the next round:
