Burst

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The burst was an Upper Hessian yarn measure . The regionally coined term "Geplätz" was derived from the clattering noise that was generated by a counting mechanism of the reel when the container reached the appropriate number of threads. After sixty revolutions of the reel, a small stake on an elastically attached board caused a loud gossip, the "space". There were also reels with half a plow, so after just thirty revolutions. The measure was different in town and country. The reel was three-ellipsed . It was laid down in a grand ducal ordinance of January 8, 1819. This reel with three cubits was only observed in the province of Starkenburg . Vier-ellig was common in part of the Odenwald . But there were bigger reels in the province of Upper Hesse .
