The Dornier P 247 (also Dornier Do P 247) was a design for a single-seat fighter equipped with a pusher propeller , which was a further development of the Dornier Do 335 .

history

The excellent flight performance and characteristics of the Do 335 led to a large number of more advanced designs with different technical concepts. For example, the front engine should be dispensed with on the P 247 in order to achieve a higher speed. In addition to an almost optimal propeller efficiency, the undisturbed flow path at the cell should also contribute to this. The ring cooler arranged around the front engine on the Do 335 was to be replaced on the P 247 by two block coolers located in the area of the wing roots.

A 12-cylinder Jumo 213 J V-engine with MW-50 injection was planned as the drive, but this was also still in the project stage. The take-off power was 2600 hp and at 11,300 m altitude 1850 hp. The engine was located behind the pilot roughly in the middle of the fuselage and was supposed to drive the pusher propeller via a long-distance shaft. The calculated maximum speed with a takeoff weight of 6200 kg was 835 km / h. The wings should have a sweep of 30 ° (different sources name 28 °). The air inlet for the engine was on the left side of the fuselage.

By eliminating the bow motor, the nose of the fuselage was now completely available for the installation of an attack armament of three 30 mm MK- 108s, which was planned as a replaceable assembly . The fuel system with a capacity of 1300 L was distributed between protected and unprotected fuselage and wing nose tanks. Due to the events of the war, however, the design was not implemented in practice.
