Reel knob
Haspelknipp was a name in East Friesland for a so-called bundle of yarn , d. H. a dependent subset of a strand . The term "Knipp" was derived from the clicking noise that was generated by a counting mechanism on the reel when the container reached the appropriate number of threads, similar to the case with the flap.
When the yarn was wound onto the counting reel, a number of so-called threads, which differed from region to region, was tied or tied to a bundle or reel clip (hence the name "bundle"). A certain number of reel knobs finally formed the finished strand of yarn. One thread was measured by one full turn of a reel. The thread length was therefore dependent on the circumference of the reel, which in turn was also determined by the material of the yarn to be measured.
A royal announcement of February 2, 1838 in Aurich stipulated: For wool yarn on a reel intended for linen yarn , a piece of yarn should have four roofs (strands).
- 1 reel clip = 60 threads
- 1 Roof = 5 reel knobs = 300 threads
- 1 piece = 4 Roof = 20 reel nippers = 1200 threads
