Gerald Wasshuber

Gerald Johannes Wasshuber (born February 19,  1976 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian basketball coach and former player.

career

Wasshuber played basketball in Aflenz until 1993 and in Kapfenberg from 1993 . He was an Austrian youth national player and made the leap into the Bundesliga team Kapfenberg Bears at the age of 17 . The 1.86-meter-tall superstructure player ended his playing career back in 1998 at the age of 22 and devoted himself to his teaching degree in the subjects of sport, history and social studies. He completed this in 2003. During his student days he worked as a youth trainer in Kapfenberg and in the Styrian performance center. Between 2001 and 2003 Wasshuber was in charge of the Kapfenberg youth department, from 2003 to 2005 he was a coach at the Kapfenberg team sports academy and headed the basketball department of the Kapfenberg youth model. In the 2005/06 season he worked full-time as a youth coach in the Kapfenberg junior model.

In 2006 Wasshuber switched to the staff of the German Bundesliga club Gießen 46ers as an assistant coach . He was in this position for Mittelhessen until 2010, and during the 2009/10 season he was also head coach of the second division team TV 1860 Lich .

In May 2010 he was introduced as the new coach of the Bundesliga club WBC Wels  . In September 2011 Wasshuber in Wels was released due to "differences of opinion". He was again active as a youth trainer within the framework of the Kapfenberg junior model and as a teacher. In addition, Wasshuber coached the Austrian U16, U18 and U20 national teams, including at the U18 B-EM 2013, the U20-B-EM 2014 and the B-European Championships in the U16 age range in 2015 and 2016 .
