Geraldine Van Bibber

Geraldine Van Bibber (born July 3, 1951 in Dawson , born as Geraldine Kelly ) was from December 2005 to November 2010 Commissioner of the Yukon , a kind of lieutenant governor for the Canadian territory. It has ancestors among the Gwich'in living in the northern Yukon and among the Irish .

From 1976 to 1990 Van Bibber worked in the Yukon Department of Finance , the Ministry of Finance for the Yukon Territory. In 1986 she took part in a family business in tourism .

From 2002 to 2005 she was the administrator of the Yukon. As early as 1992 she was one of the initiators of the Yukon First Nation Tourism Association , which tries to promote tourism among the Indians . At the same time she sat on the board of directors of the Canadian Tourism Commission .

In addition to numerous other activities, she advocates the Yukon Human Rights Commission , the Yukon Advisory Council on Women's Issues and the Potlatch Society . Accordingly, she sees her focus on human and women's rights as well as the cultural protection rights of the Indians of the Pacific coastal region and their specific ties to the potlatch.

She was named Commander of the Order of Saint John on June 1, 2006 . She is entitled to wear a coat of arms on which a wolf and two caribou can be seen wearing a pearl work of the Gwich'in. Her personal motto Laughter Heals All can be found as well as a coat of arms with the sun, symbolic waves and the plant of the Yukon, the Fireweed .

On November 30, 2010, Van Bibber resigned from office to Doug Phillips . She has been in Parliament for Porter Creek North since the November 7, 2016 election.

She is married and has two kids.
