Coordinates: 28 ° 46 ′ S , 114 ° 36 ′ E The City of Greater Geraldton is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area covers 12,625.5 km² and has about 38,500 inhabitants.
The LGA is located on the west coast of Australia about 370 kilometers north of the capital Perth . The seat of the City Council was in the coastal town of Geraldton , which has about 32,000 inhabitants.
In 2007 Greenough Shire and Geraldton City merged to form the LGa Geraldton-Greenough City. On July 1, 2011, the City of Geraldton-Greenough and the Mullewa Shire merged to form Greater Geraldton City.

Greater Geraldton is administered by a council of twelve members. The area is not further divided into wards. In addition to the Councilors, there is also a Mayor of the City.
