Gerard Nevile Mark Fane-Trefusis, 22nd Baron Clinton (born October 7, 1934 ) is a British peer, politician and landowner.

Life and career

Born in 1934, Gerard Nevile Mark Fane , he was the eldest child of Captain Charles Fane, who died in Belgium in 1940. He was raised in Gordonstoun .

His great-grandfather (father of his grandmother) Charles Hepburn-Stuart-Forbes-Trefusis, 21. Baron Clinton had no direct male heir when he died in 1957, so that his title of nobility, Baron Clinton, fell in Abeyance . As his co-heir, Gerard Fane had his family name changed from “Fane” to “Fane-Trefusis” through deed poll in 1959 and petitioned for the restitution of the barony in his favor. He was finally successful, so that on March 18, 1965 he was awarded the title of 22nd Baron Clinton and he became a member of the House of Lords .

He became a Justice of the Peace for Bideford Borough in 1963 , an office he held until 1983. From 1968 to 1979 he was a member of the Council of the Prince of Wales and finally from 1977 Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Devon . With the House of Lords reform in 1999 , he lost his hereditary seat in the House of Lords.

He is married and has a son and two daughters.
