Gerd Leers

Gerardus Bernardus Maria (Gerd) Leers (born July 12, 1951 in Kerkrade ) is a Dutch politician . He is a member of the Christen-Democratisch Appèl (CDA) and has been a member of the Goirle parish council , a member of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament and mayor of Maastricht . In the Rutte I cabinet , he was Minister for Immigration and Asylum from 2010 to 2012 .

From January 1, 2018 to March 11, 2020 he was provisional mayor of Brunssum .

He studied urban planning and “spatial economics” at the then Catholic University of Nijmegen (today's Radboud University Nijmegen).

Gerd Leers is married and lives in Maastricht. He belongs to the Roman Catholic Church . In 2002 he was awarded the Knight's Cross by the Order of Orange-Nassau .
