Gerd Roscher

Gerd Roscher (* 1943 ) is a German documentary filmmaker and professor at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts .

After studying German and philosophy in Munich and Frankfurt , he received a professorship for documentary film and video in Hamburg in 1972. In the 1970s he focused on the target group film genre and the - at that time - "new medium" video , especially its importance for media centers and video magazines. In the early 1980s, this resulted in an examination of video art , experimental films and the debate about essayistic film. In the 1990s the research area of ​​visual anthropology was added. Since his retirement in 2008 he has been working on a documentation project about the Africa explorer Albrecht Roscher .
