Gerda Wacek

Gerda Wacek (born September 28, 1933 in Vienna ) is an Austrian children's book author.

biography

After her mother's death in 1935, Gerda Wacek and her two brothers initially went to a children's home. In February 1936 she was taken in by foster parents.

The profession she learned is that of a saleswoman, which she also practiced for a number of years. In 1957 she became a temporary nurse in the 2nd University Dermatology Clinic in the General Hospital in Vienna. For family reasons, however, she worked part-time for an ophthalmologist between 1962 and 1969. Then she went back to work in the university skin clinic. Between December 1974 and 1977 she attended the nursing school in Lainz Hospital , from which she graduated with a nursing diploma. Afterwards she worked as a ward nurse and head nurse representative in the Lainz nursing home .

The mother of two daughters began inventing children's stories in the nursery of the university skin clinic, where she always told the children a bedtime story. She started working as a writer in 1994 after retiring as a nurse.
