Akun ( aleutian : Akungan ) is an uninhabited island in the Krenitzin Islands and is one of the Aleutian Islands . The approximately 167 km² island is located east of Akutan and southwest of Unimak . The most striking elevation of the 23 km long and 16 km wide island is the extinct volcano St. Gilbert (818 m).

In 1928 the island became famous for a spectacular rescue operation by the American Coast Guard . This rescued all passengers and crew members of the sailor Falkland Star , which was shipwrecked in thick fog on the coast.

Today the island is home to feral cows.
