Gerhard Aichinger

Gerhard Aichinger (born January 4, 1900 in St. Pölten , Lower Austria , † April 6, 1978 probably in Berlin ) was an Austrian- German writer. He wrote under the pseudonyms Gerhard Aick , Gerhard Dick , Eva Leitgeb and Ferdinand Schwartz and Ferdinand Schwarz .

Life

The ideological right-wing author studied political science and a PhD from the University of Vienna Dr. rer. pole. He joined the NSDAP in 1930 and promoted the young Heimito von Doderer as editor of the German-Austrian daily newspaper . Aichinger celebrated some successes as a playwright in the 1930s, especially with the play Caroline von England. From 1938 to 1939 Aichinger played a leading role in the liquidation of the Austrian Official News Agency (ANA). After 1945 he was mainly active as an author for young people and lived in Berlin. Aichinger specialized in the retelling of legends and published, for example, a widespread volume with German sagas of gods and heroes.
