Gerhard Bauer (Linguist)

Gerhard Bauer (born February 19, 1929 in Saarbrücken ) is a German linguist .

Bauer studied German , Romance languages, English and philosophy from 1949 to 1955 . In 1955 he received his doctorate from Saarbrücken University. From 1959 to 1962 he taught in Japan. From 1962 to 1970 he was an academic councilor in Berlin and Mannheim. In 1970 he completed his habilitation at the University of Mannheim. From 1974 to 1994 he was Professor of German Linguistics and Older German Literature at the University of Mannheim.
