Life

In 1935 Becherer passed his Abitur and began to study physics at the University of Halle . The studies were interrupted by participation in the Second World War. Becherer was seriously wounded in 1942. In the same year he received his doctorate . From 1944 he was an assistant at the Institute for Physics at the University of Halle. In 1953 he completed his habilitation. From 1957 to 1958 he held a professorship for experimental physics in Halle, then he accepted a professorship for experimental physics at the University of Rostock as successor to Paul Kunze . He headed the institute until 1968. From 1970 until his retirement in 1980 he was a full professor for experimental physics in Rostock.

Becherer was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science / Mathematics in 1960 . From 1962 to 1964 he was Vice Dean. In 1975 he founded the working group for non-crystalline and partially crystalline structures and was appointed head of it, as well as leading the association for crystallography . From Becherer's working group 70 doctorates and 26 habilitations resulted.

In 2003 Becherer died at the age of 88 in Rostock after a long illness.
