Gerhard Haslroither

Gerhard Haslroither OCist (born August 10, 1842 in Linz ; † April 20, 1917 there ) was an Austrian Cistercian and abbot of Schlierbach Abbey .

Life

After graduating from high school in Linz, Haslroither entered Schlierbach Abbey in 1863 and was ordained a priest in 1868. He then worked in various pastoral care positions, and also novice master from 1872 to 1880, until he was recalled to the monastery in 1882 as the representative of the administrator P. Florian Schininger. After his death in 1882 he was elected administrator and in 1892 abbot.

As an able economist he consolidated the economic situation of the monastery and was able to renovate the long-neglected monastery buildings. During his tenure, the number of members of the monastery rose from 14 to 26. During the First World War, he accepted some classes at the Linz boys' seminar Petrinum in Schlierbach, which had been driven out of his building .

He died in Linz in 1917 after an operation and was buried in the crypt under the monastery church, which had not been used since the time of Josephinism .
