Gerhard Herbert

Gerhard Herbert (born May 10, 1955 in Dorn-Assenheim ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After an apprenticeship as a publishing clerk, Herbert made up his Abitur in 1978. He then studied law for four semesters at the University of Frankfurt am Main and then finance at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Sigmaringen . He graduated in 1985 with a degree in finance. Herbert was a clerk and auditor at the federal tax administration until 1986 before he switched to the city of Offenbach as a trainer . In 1989 he became head of the finance and tax administration in Wölfersheim , until in 1993 he became head of the city treasury in Karben .

From 1994 to 2000 Herbert was an honorary alderman for the community of Wölfersheim. In 2000 he became First City Councilor in Heppenheim , the district town of the Bergstrasse district . In 2005 he ran against the incumbent Ulrich Obermayr ( CDU ) in the election for mayor of Heppenheim . He won the second ballot with 65.6 percent. In the mayoral election in 2011 Herbert lost to Rainer Burelbach (CDU).
