Matthias Baass

Matthias Baaß (born March 8, 1962 in Viernheim ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After graduating from high school in Viernheim in 1981, Baaß did a voluntary social year . He then studied social work at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt until 1987 and then worked for the Bergstraße district youth welfare office until 1997 . Baaß is married and has two children.

Baaß joined the SPD in 1984. The following year he was elected to the Viernheim City Council. There he was chairman of the Committee on Environment and Transport and the Committee on Culture, Sport, Youth and Social Affairs for four years. In 1997 he was elected mayor of the city of Viernheim. In 2003, 2009 and 2015 Baaß was re-elected.

Honorary positions

Baaß is a member of the board of the “Future Metropolitan Region Rhein-Neckar” association.
