Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas LC (born September 4, 1949 in San José de Gracia , Michoacán ) is a Mexican religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Cancún-Chetumal .

Life

Elizondo Cárdenas joined the religious order of the Legionaries of Christ and made profession in 1974 . He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. On December 24, 1982 he was ordained a priest . He was active in pastoral care and was a novice master in the seminaries of the Legionaries of Christ in Salamanca, Spain and Cheshire, USA .

Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas was professor of Spanish pastoral care in the seminary of the Archdiocese of New York and rector of the legionaries' seminaries in Santiago de Chile and Dublin .

On 26 October 2004 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To the prelates of the territorial prelate Cancún-Chetumal in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo . The episcopal ordination donated him on 22 November 2004. Archbishop Giuseppe Bertello , Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico; Co- consecrators were Emilio Carlos Berlie Belaunzarán , Archbishop of Yucatán , and his predecessor Bishop Jorge Bernal Vargas LC. His episcopal motto is Si me amas, apacienta. (For example: if you love me, feed (my sheep). Cf. ( Joh 21.15  EU ))

In the Mexican Bishops' Conference he was chairman of the Yucatán Regional Conference (2007–2009).

With the elevation of the territorial prelature to the diocese of Cancún-Chetumal on February 15, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him first diocesan bishop .
