Jorge Bernal Vargas LC (born February 28, 1929 in Apizaco , Tlaxcala ) is a Mexican religious and Roman Catholic bishop emeritus .

Life

Bernal Vargas joined the Order of the Legionaries of Christ after meeting Marcial Maciel LC and made his novitiate in Mexico and Spain in 1946/47. From 1948 to 1950 he studied humanities at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid . From 1950 to 1958 he studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. On September 15, 1957, he was ordained a priest in Lourdes, France . After working in pastoral care, he was appointed Rector of the Career Center of the Legionaries of Christ in Tlalpan , Mexico.

On July 16, 1970, Pope Paul VI appointed him . as apostolic administrator of the newly established territorial prelature Chetumal . On December 7, 1973, he was appointed titular bishop of Velefi and the first prelate of the Chetumal territorial prelature. The episcopal ordination donated to him on March 19, 1974 Archbishop Mario Pio Gaspari , apostolic nuncio in Mexico; Co- consecrators were José de Jesús García Ayala , Bishop of Campeche , and Luis Guízar y Barragán , Bishop of Saltillo .

In the Mexican Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Commission for Pastoral Care for Migrants and Tourism and Tourism (1980–1983), Vice Chairman of the Pastoral Region South (1983–1985; 1994–1997) and Chairman of the Pastoral Region Southeast (1988–1991 ; 1992-1994). He was a member of the commissions for pastoral care and apostolate and belonged to the commission for refugees from 1992 to 1994 and from 1997 to 2000 to the commission for pastoral care.

On October 26, 2004, Pope John Paul II granted his age-related resignation. He works at the Catedral del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús .
