Gerhard Heufler

Gerhard Heufler (* 1944 in Dornbirn , Vorarlberg ; † April 29, 2013 in Graz , Styria ) was an Austrian industrial designer and co-founder of the industrial design course at the FH Joanneum in Graz.

Life

Gerhard Heufler studied architecture at the Technical University of Graz and started his career as a product designer in 1970 at Siemens in Munich . From 1975 he worked as a freelance industrial designer in Graz and taught design analysis and ergonomics from 1979 to 1995 at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the Graz University of Technology.

In 1995, Gerhard Heufler and Gerald Kiska founded the Industrial Design course at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences, which he has headed ever since. In 2006, the US magazine Business Week ranked the course among the 60 best design schools in Europe, Asia and North America. Heufler has received numerous state awards for design, including a small mine detector and the Camcopter S-100 , an unmanned helicopter, both of which were added to the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He was also awarded the USA Industrial Design Excellence Design Award Gold in 2005. His design books were published in German, English and Chinese.
