Gerhard II. Was a count from the house of Schauenburg , more precisely from the Holstein-Schauenburg line , and is therefore sometimes listed as Gerhard von Holstein-Schauenburg. The house of Schaumburg provided the bishop in Minden several times. Gerhard's father was Count Adolf VII of Holstein-Schauenburg-Pinneberg († June 5, 1353). Adolf was the ruling Count of Holstein-Pinneberg from 1315 until his death. His mother was Heilwig zur Lippe , a daughter of the Lippe sovereign Simon I. His uncle Gerhard was from 1346 to 1353 also bishop in the diocese of Minden . Another uncle Erich († October 21, 1350) was counter-bishop in the diocese of Hildesheim .

Bishop of Minden

After Gerhard was initially vicar in Minden from 1355 to 1361 , he rose to Bishop of Minden in 1361 as Gerhard II. His tenure ended abruptly when he drowned in the Mediterranean on September 28, 1366 .
