Gerhard Kitchens
Gerhard Küchen (born January 26, 1861 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † March 29, 1932 there ) was a royal Prussian councilor and manager of the Mathias Stinnes company, which his grandfather founded in 1808.
Live and act
Gerhard Küchen was born to Gerhard Küchen senior (1809–1886) and his wife Katharina (1819–1903). The latter was a daughter of Mathias Stinnes , the founder of the Stinnes dynasty.
After attending grammar school in his hometown of Mülheim, he did his one-year military service with the Guard Uhlans from 1882 to 1883 . Later Gerhard Küchen became a member of the honorary council and from 1900 chairman of the Mülheim officers' association. In 1887 he married Agnes Natorp (1866–1963), the daughter of his former senior teacher at the city high school. The marriage resulted in a total of five children.
Gerhard Küchen was initially a special director and later a deputy dispatcher at Mathias Stinnes, which he eventually took over. He expanded the company by buying up other shipping companies and coal trading companies. By participating in the formation of a coal syndicate in the Ruhr mining industry, he consolidated his company's position of power. In addition to exercising numerous honorary positions, he was chairman of the West German inland shipping cooperative, member of the supervisory board of the Rheinisch-Westfälischen coal syndicate and second chairman of the Mülheim Chamber of Commerce .
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Mathias Stinnes company, he donated 100,000 gold marks to his home town of Mülheim in 1908 to build a town hall.
In 1912, Gerhard Küchen was awarded an honorary doctorate by the medical faculty of the University of Bonn for his services to the promotion of public health care.
